Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has expressed concern over a lack of early warning from international partners before a Russian ballistic missile attack on Kyiv. The assault, which took place on Monday, resulted in five missiles hitting civilian targets and damaging infrastructure. Zelenskyy emphasized the importance of timely intelligence sharing to protect lives, highlighting how early warnings can help civilians and emergency services prepare for such attacks.
Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha suggested that the failure to receive a warning could be linked to the specific type of Russian weapon used in the attack. Despite this incident, intelligence cooperation with international partners continues, according to Sybiha.
The attack occurs amidst uncertainties regarding US intelligence support for Ukraine. Reports indicate that American officials have warned Ukraine of potential changes in intelligence sharing under the Trump administration. Nevertheless, Ukrainian officials continue to stress the critical role of such cooperation, particularly in detecting ballistic missile launches and long-range bomber activity.
Amid rising tensions, especially concerning attacks on energy infrastructure, US President Donald Trump has called for Ukraine to cease strikes on Russian oil refineries. An agreement with Russian President Vladimir Putin was announced, involving diesel supplies, and a claimed energy ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine. However, Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine has not received confirmation of such an arrangement.
Despite the purported ceasefire, Zelenskyy accused Russia of ongoing attacks on Ukrainian energy facilities. He noted that Ukraine had temporarily refrained from striking Russian energy infrastructure following the US announcement but insisted that any suspension of attacks must be mutual and come with credible guarantees.
Russian strikes continue to cause civilian casualties and damage across Ukraine. In a separate incident in Kharkiv, four people were reported killed and 41 injured when a residential building was destroyed. In response to the intensifying Russian attacks on cities and energy infrastructure, Ukraine has requested additional air-defense support from its partners, including Patriot missile systems, as winter approaches.
