OpenAI Unveils Enhanced ChatGPT for Teens with Advanced Safety Technology

by admin477351

OpenAI has unveiled a tailored version of ChatGPT for teenagers aged 13 to 17, incorporating enhanced safety measures and protections suitable for this age group. This specialized version is crafted to create a safer environment by restricting content related to self-harm, suicide, and sexual or romantic discussions. The aim is to provide a more secure space for teens using AI for educational purposes, daily inquiries, or companionship.

Among the new features are tools designed to promote healthier interactions with AI. Parents can link their accounts to set specific quiet hours, during which their teens will not have access to ChatGPT. In scenarios deemed high-risk, parents might also receive safety alerts. OpenAI is introducing additional safeguards concerning sensitive issues such as eating disorders and is taking steps to limit the dissemination of potentially harmful information while guiding users to seek offline support when needed.

To counter the risk of teenagers forming unhealthy emotional ties with the chatbot, the teen version is programmed not to imply that the AI possesses personal feelings, consciousness, or emotions towards the user. OpenAI employs age-assurance technology to ascertain if a user is under 18, using indicators like user interaction patterns. Those identified as minors will be automatically directed to the teen-specific version with these protective measures in place.

Additionally, ChatGPT for Teens is structured to assist students in understanding and solving problems rather than merely providing answers or completing assignments for them. This educational approach is intended to position AI as a supplementary tool that aids learning rather than replacing the educational process.
